The Peacock on the Roof, Tara Bergin

This poem is the English version by Tara Bergin of an original poem written for “A New Divan” by the Portuguese poet Angélica Freitas, via a literal translation by Hilary Kaplan. The original poem was inspired by the book of Parables in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s “West-Eastern Divan” (published 1819).
