The Creation of the World by the Animals, Kathleen Jamie

This poem is the English version by Kathleen Jamie of an original poem written for “A New Divan” by the Mexican poet Homero Aridjis, via a literal translation by Anne McLean. The original poem was inspired by the book of Love in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s “West-Eastern Divan” (published 1819).
